The summer of 2019 I took up kiteboarding for the second time in order to learn how to kite foil. I had previously kiteboarded in 2000-2001 but gave it up due to it not being family friendly, pretty expensive for a college kid, and at that time the gear was not safe. In the process of taking it back up I realized there were a lot of things about it I was still very interesting in beyond foiling, like jumping a twin tip kiteboard! I began watching videos, specifically Kevvlog videos and was hooked on the idea of riding a twin tip and jumping. Of course this would mean that I am going to design and build at least one twin tip kiteboard.
In this kiteboard build I am going to do a couple of things differently than a typical factory build. In order to get a high gloss finish without sanding, priming, and painting after the lamination or instead of using a top sheet, I am going to laminate the composite skins for the kiteboard on a flat sheet of glass and then bond the premade sheets to the core. Another difference in the build is that because these are custom boards and I am not tooling up to make hundreds of them we will use a rocker table and vacuum pressure to glue them together instead of using a high pressure press with matched tooling.
As I work through the build I’ll post the steps and that I work through so check back and enjoy!
